Toolroom machine release from XYZ

XYZ Machine Tools has taken two stands at the forthcoming Southern Manufacturing and Electronics 2023 show (7th – 9th February). One of the stands will be dedicated to the brand new TMC (Toolroom Machining Centre) range of machining centres.

This four machine range builds on the existing linear rail machines offered by XYZ Machine Tools, but with the added familiarity to many toolrooms of the latest ProtoTRAK control system.

“Our ProtoTRAK-controlled mills and lathes are a staple of many toolroom and low volume environments, so the logical step was to add even greater versatility and options of progression for these users, with the development of the TMC range,” says Nigel Atherton, managing director, XYZ Machine Tools. “Our success is built on that of our customers, and our machine tool development reflects the needs of customers to improve their machining performance in a controlled and efficient way.”

In targeting the toolroom and low- to medium-volume sector the TMC range brings added versatility. Depending on the machine size, the range provides up to 20 station toolchangers, with fully enclosed guarding allowing higher machine performance, while freeing up labour to carry out other tasks while parts are being machined. The latest version of the popular ProtoTRAK control system creates a seamless progression for existing customers with its touchscreen interface and easy-to-use programming tools making the control ideal for low to medium production.

The four-machine XYZ TMC range is available as 500, 750, 1000 and 1600 variants, with the number referencing the machine’s X-axis travel. Equipped with fully enclosed guarding, 20 station toolchanger (12 station on the XYZ 500 TMC) all models have a 15hp (11kW) spindle power with 8,000rpm (12,000rpm available as an option on some machines), the TMC series will take toolroom machining to the next level with volume batch work well within its capabilities.

The use of the ProtoTRAK control brings many advantages, which will be appreciated by existing ProtoTRAK users, such as the TRAKing feature, which uses handwheel movement to prove the program. The faster you wind the faster it machines. Stop or reverse the handwheel and the machine does the same.

Again, for those familiar with XYZ Machine Tools’ ProtoTRAK bed mills, the TMC series machines are fitted as standard with electronic handwheels in all axes. With this option users can work the machine as if it were a bed mill, using the DRO facility for manual machining, while having the security of fully enclosed guarding to keep swarf and coolant within the machining environment.

XYZ will also be showcasing the new TMC machines at a series of events at showrooms around the country on November 15th, 16th and 17th. To register visit the website.
